Most of us get confused between the terms Internet and Intranet.The terms Internet and Intranet are most widely used terms. Many people think both are similar, Although there exist a lot of disparity between them.

Internet

• Internet is wide network of computers and is open for all.
• Internet itself contains a large number of intranets.
• The number of users who use internet is Unlimited.
• The Visitors traffic is unlimited.
• Internet contains different source of information and is available for all.
• It is an open network of computers that anyone can access.
• The internet is not as safe as the intranet.
• The internet is composed of several LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network) and MAN (Metropolitan Area Network).

Intranet

• Intranet is also a network of computers designed for a specific group of users.
• Intranet can be accessed from Internet but with restrictions.
• The number of users is limited.
• The traffic allowed is also limited.
• Intranet contains only specific group information.
• It is a private network of computers that offer limited access.
• The intranet is much safer than the internet.
• The intranet is composed of either a LAN (Local Area Network) or a WAN (Wide Area Network) or a MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)
